According to the International Organization for Standardization, “ISO standards provide a framework for organizations to improve their performance and enhance customer satisfaction.”

6. Hosting the ISO Annual Meetings

In a landmark announcement, Rwanda was selected to host the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Annual Meetings at the Kigali Convention Centre from October 6-10, 2025. This prestigious event is a testament to Rwanda’s growing influence in the global standardization community.

7. Launch of the Helmet Testing Laboratory

In partnership with the FIA Foundation and other stakeholders, Rwanda launched the first Helmet Testing Laboratory on the African continent. This facility aims to improve road safety standards and reduce traffic-related injuries, aligning with global safety initiatives.

8. Capacity Building for Stakeholders

RSB conducted extensive capacity-building programs, including training and technical assistance for stakeholders. “Empowering our partners with the necessary skills and knowledge is essential for achieving our quality goals,” said an RSB official.

9. Awareness Campaigns

Throughout the year, RSB conducted awareness campaigns focused on various standards, including Gender Equality Standards, Air Quality Standards and fighting air pollution, Food Safety Standards, helmet standards and testing, promoting food safety through implementation of standards in the school feeding program. These initiatives aim to educate the public and promote adherence to safety and quality standards across all sectors.

10. Commitment to Internationally Accredited Services

The RSB maintained its focus on providing internationally accredited services, supporting “Made in Rwanda” products to effectively compete in regional and international markets. This strategic direction is crucial for enhancing the country’s economic presence.

11. Collaboration with KOICA

In a significant move, RSB signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to implement the SISIC project. This collaboration aims to enhance Rwanda’s standardization capacity and capabilities.

12. Partnership with FITI Testing and Research Institute

Additionally, RSB signed an MoU with the Korean FITI Testing and Research Institute to advance quality testing and knowledge sharing. This partnership is expected to bolster Rwanda’s testing capabilities and promote best practices in standardization.

2024 was a transformative year for Rwanda, marked by strong collaborations and partnerships that support the country’s socio-economic transformation agenda. The RSB’s initiatives in standardization not only enhance product quality and safety but also position Rwanda as a leader in the region. As stakeholders look forward to 2025 and beyond, the focus remains on strengthening ties and achieving even greater milestones in the realm of standards and quality assurance.
