The First ever milk powder produced in Rwanda has been certified with S-Mark

Rwanda Standards Board, RSB, via X (former twitter), has announced that it has certified 4 products produced by Inyange, including the first milk powder to be produced in Rwanda.

“RSB is pleased to inform the public that the following 4 products by Inyange have been certified with S-Mark. Congratulations!” RSB tweeted.

Undoubtedly, this would be a huge win.  It would reduce the cost of milk powder on the local market;  and in the upcoming years, Rwanda would also export milk powder.

When you scroll on the internet searching for different imported milk powder on Rwanda market, the cost of 2,5kg varies between 60,000Rwf and  82,000 Rwf where the small one (400 mg) would vary between 12,000 rwf and 25,000 rwf.

Governor of Eastern Province, Pudence Rubingisa, On 6th June 2024 via X (former tweeter), announced the news about the milk powder factory in Nyagatare.

“Exciting news! Nyagatare is now home to the country’s first whole milk powder factory, boosting local milk processing capacity and reducing reliance on imports. A major step forward for Rwandan agriculture!”- Rubingisa tweeted.

The Rwf 45 billion powder milk factory is located in Nyagatare, in Eastern Province. Its construction activities were launched in 2021.

This factory would need more than 650,000 liters per day. More than 300,000 liters would be collected in Eastern Province where the remaining would be collected in other pastoral districts of the country such as Gicumbi and Nyabihu in Northern Province and Western Province respectively.
